Presented by Hakima Tafunzi Payne MSN RN, Executive Director, Uzazi Village, Kansas City, MO

This presentation looks at how biases are formed and impact behavior, particularly racially-based biases as they impact healthcare interactions between care providers and care recipients. We will look at current CDC data on breastfeeding initiation and duration rates by race and examine them against historic and generational systems of bias within healthcare which work to keep inequities in place. Finally we will look at how to begin to deconstruct these systems by first acknowledging that they exist.
