Greetings Future Collaborates,

Thank you for extending Adolescents Know Your Rights (AKYR) the opportunity to attend your workshop. It is always a good thing to extend your network of care, and knowledge of individuals that provide it. AKYR is proud to offer two summer options that could benefit the Far Northeast Denver clients your program services, The Friendship School, and The Better Me Group. Below you will find an explanation of each activity and attached you will find a flyer for each.

  • The friendship school is a project of the AKYR that specifically targets social emotional, character, and esteem development evaluating each concept in terms of Self, Home and Family, or Society and Citizenship. The Summer Program, servicing Far North East Denver youth, 6-9 grades is currently accepting applications and referrals. Programming includes 1 week of introductions, 6 weeks of character building, 1 week of self-acceptance, and 1 celebration / field-trip. To accommodate the collaboration between the Denver Public Safety Youth Program and Adolescents Know Your Rights there will be two groups of students admitted to the program. There is a flat fee ($400) associated with participation, scholarships are available, pro-rated option ($75) available in 3-day (consecutive meeting dates) increments.

o        The first group will have a maximum capacity of 14, these are regular applicants. This group will enjoy the opportunity to earn “Kick Points”  and fieldtrip eligibility. In addition to the programing that group two will receive this group will learn: Introduction to Business Administration, and Campaign Development & Marketing. Required attendance Monday & Wednesday 12-5, Friday 12-2:30.

o        The Second group will have a capacity of 6, these are available slots for court appointed youth. This group will enjoy the opportunity to earn “Kick Points” but will not qualify (unless advocated for by DPSTYP staff) to earn eligibility for program outings. That leaves available 45 hours of attendance opportunities Monday, Wednesday, 12-2:30. Successful completion is considered: attendance of hours and specific courses requested by Denver Public Safety Youth Program staff.

  • “The Better Me Group”(BMG) Are you a girl between the ages of 12 and 17? Do you live in or near the Montbello Neighborhood? Do you have the desire to improve yourself? Join us Saturday at mornings at 8:45-12 am for some exercise, activities and conversation.  This is a journey in self -exploration and environmental enlightenment. The BMG meets at the corner of 51st and Bolling Drive, in the parking lot of the Montbello Campus.

Thank you for your interest in our program. I look forward to working with you in the future.
